Abstract
The digital economy has rapidly grown and given rise to new professions, with influencers becoming one of the most prominent. This profession provides substantial earning opportunities through endorsements, advertising, and collaboration with brands, making it a sector with high relevance in taxation. In Indonesia, influencers with 100,000–500,000 followers typically earn between IDR 5–15 million per post, while those with more than one million followers may generate income ranging from IDR 30–100 million. These figures illustrate the significant tax revenue potential that could be optimized by the state. However, the growing number of influencers also creates challenges for tax authorities, particularly in terms of reporting, monitoring, and ensuring compliance. This study aims to examine the barriers in digital tax collection and to explore educational strategies combined with clear tax regulations that can be easily understood by influencers of different backgrounds. The research applies an empirical juridical method supported by qualitative analysis of tax regulations and findings from previous studies. Data were obtained through a questionnaire distributed to 15 Instagram influencers with a minimum of 3,000 followers who had received endorsements. The findings reveal that 80% of respondents were not aware of their tax obligations despite generating income, while only 20% demonstrated understanding and compliance. These results suggest that compliance is strongly influenced by tax literacy and perceived benefits. The study highlights the urgency of strengthening tax education and providing practical approaches that foster awareness and compliance within the digital economy sector.
